I don’t know if posting this gofundme for our friend is going to net anything for him and his family, but I want to share in the hopes that maybe it’ll do something for them. I know it’s nothing like what I usually share, but I’ll explain.

I first met Lance Corporal Odle while we were both standing duty at the barracks. We shot the shit like people do when you both have to stay in the same place for 24 hours, get to know each other. The most important thing to get from that meeting is that he told me he had a cyst he was getting removed the next day, I didn’t think much of it but I wished him luck.
He worked in the same shop as my husband, so every once in a while I would get cursory updates about Odle, just like he’d tell me stuff about any of the Marines he works with. A few months down the road, my husband tells me that Odle had been misdiagnosed and that what they thought was a cyst was actually a cancerous tumor.
This news was months ago. It’s gotten worse and it’s spread to other parts of his body. We have all thought of how this could’ve all been caught sooner, maybe… but he’s been screwed by our own medical, by tricare, by leadership who’s believed that he was just ‘faking it’… in the end it doesn’t help to think of what could have been different. We just have to hope for the best, and help the best we can.
He’s starting chemo soon, and his mother has come in to stay locally so she can be here with him through this. We know it’s already a difficult thing to go through, and the financial burden of driving around to the hospital, meds, accommodations, etc., isn’t making it any easier. We want to help them so they can focus on Odle’s fight. That’s what the gofundme’s for, and if y’all can contribute in whichever way, from the bottom of my heart, we really, really appreciate.
